Impressions....
awww.... thats so sweet....
this evening i was planning on attending the anicipated
Harry the Potter in a theater near me, but it was sold out,
not to my surprise... so my pals and i decided that we would
view the other good movie that was playing at the local
Avalon cinema, My Big Fat Greek Wedding... which was much
more uplifting than sitting in a crowded theater filled
with pre-adolecent children who would laugh at every attempt
of tom-foolery... fuck that...
My Big Fat Greek Wedding
is a movie that has been in theaters for some time now ...
since end of july, i think... quite a run... it started
with quite a low opening, but every week it seems that its
generated revenue grows and grows... a sleeper hit is the
term most often used in the context, but i wouldn't say
that... it'd be more correct to say that the attention that
it deserves is growing..
It is a romantic comedy
but its not about this beautiful person, seeks this beautiful
person and shit happens.. like that absolutely terrible
movie about weather... the characters are actually based
in reality even though the base is then exagerated... but
its exagerated for comical points, not for beautification
or glory...
My Big Fat Greek Wedding
has a true sense of love and being... the begining of the
life between Tula and Ian... the story centers on Tula,
though... its begins with her life shows how terrible it
is.. her over-controlling father, and her less than presentable
appearance at the age of 30 years.. its truth.. the movie
doesn't sugar coat appearances for the perfect body... she
has her hints of beauty but her father continualy puts her
down, driving in the sensation that she is 'ugly'...
her life is changed around
with her subtle and progressive defiants with her parents..
her lifes changes for the better, she takes better care
to her looks and her body... she loses weight and gains
knowledge.. but she always see's her family as a constant
ball and chain of regression to her past... what she was
and doesn't want to be... her defiats continue as she meets
a man who has feelings for her.. and ... ( i don't wanna
spoil it for ya ^_^ ) ...perhaps i didn't mention that Tula
is greek.. and by her father's philosophy, women are put
on this earth to clean, cook, and make babies... which is
not in agreement with Tula.. she can only marry a nice greek
man, and continue with the family... Ian, however, is very
not greek.. he's catholic actually.. i think...
in a some way, i am very
reminded of a similiar type of story with VERY differing
parents.. Kareshi Kanojo no Jijou ( one of my fav anime
!! )... Tula's family is wild and out of control when it
comes to being together... they seem crazy, loud, and always
in each other's lives.. while Ian's family is very small...
very quiet... and very conservative... its a very wide contrast
between both families, and then quite ironic with how similiar
Tula and Ian are...
aww... its so sweet.. i
suggest you go find your significant other and watch it
together... if you have one.... its not a hollywood blockbuster,
or the artsy-ist film in the world... but i suggest you
take a gander at a successful attempt at an example of true
love blooming.. ^_^...
