Impressions....

as a child we are exposed to many things.. we are most prone to things the grab our attention quickly and show us a feat of imagination that couldn't come up with ourselves... it didn't matter if it was good quality or terrible quality... we liked what grabbed our attention.. and that continues today too with some people... and especially the whole 'action' genre... but anyways...

back in the late 1980s Nintendo caught the eye of american children everywhere and instantly hooked them forever... the fad had begun.. and american companies began to take notice as well... and with the japanese/american copyright laws not what they today, several network television stations took note, and wanted a piece of the action...

this spawned a number of american nintendo related shows and a movie or two as well... and one of the most renowned tv show of this genre is Captain N The Game Master... i remember this show very well and i thought i'd try my luck on kazaa to rekindle my curiousity of this childhood memory... and i was quite successful..

as a child, watching this show was one of the highlights of my week... i enjoyed watching the my nintendo games come alive on the screen... the characters looked a little funny but i didn't care at all ... but now in the light of today, i can see why my parents didn't want me to watch this crappy tv show....

Captain N or Captain Nintendo is about mildmanner gamer, 'Kevin Keene' and while he sat in his chair playing his Nintendo while he was supposed to be cleaning his room and doing homework.. and beam of light shoots from the tv grabbing Kevin and sucking him into his games... his dog, Duke, follows in after him... Kevin and Duke arrive in VideoLand ruled by Princess Lana... for the past Seven years Lana and the N team have been fighting the force of Mother Brain who wants to rule over VideoLand... Kevin joins up with the N team and fights for good and yatta yatta yatta..

whats wrong with this current picture ? .. i mean, besides the fact some kid just warped through his television set ? ... in the first place, the overall plotlines in most 8bit Nintendo are paperthin.. so the creators of this show thought it would be a good idea to combine this thin plots all together to make a new plot...

Mother Brain is the type of creature that desires destruction, suffering and over all mayhem.. that is understood... and she also does use a variety of henchman to do such a job.. but her method of communication and loyality among her henchman is not verbal nor does it even allow for any kind of mutiny... Mother Brain contacts through telepathy.. and also has the ability to harm through telepathy as well... her minions are vast, and ruthless...

now compare that to her minions in Captin N ... there's King Hippo from Punchout who was never conisdered a worthly opponent in any game.. one of the easiest opponents in Punchout right next to the first moron you fight.. King Hippo descents from an island in the South Pacific where he is chief of his tribe... he's not out for evil, nor conquest.. he's only there to prove himself against other fighters.. did they creators of Captain N even play these games before using the characters ?? .. or in King Hippos case, did they even look at what the character looked like before making a tv show based on him ?? King Hippos is not a short, nor does he have green skin...

the next stooge in the villian posse is Eggplant wizard...one of the most annoying enemies in the game, Kid Icarus, is now one of the most annoying characters in the tv show... The Eggplant Wizard in the game is a mythological soldier positioned to repel any invading forces from reaching medusa... they are said to be immovable and ruthless.. well then what the fuck were the creators thinking when they made the character in Captain N ??... an idiotic halfwit who only uses his scepter to shoot vegetables at his opponents, instead of turning them into vegetables..

Mother Brain never seems to have completely control over these morons, nor do they ever accomplish anything... after 7 years of putting up with them, don't you think she'd have the intelligence to plan something else ??.. or at least disipline them better... not only that.. why the fuck does Mother brain have lipstick and eye makeup on... and what the fuck is up with her voice... did the character designs think of the original character at all before animating her ??...

and as if the villians weren't enough, the N team is even more a shame.... the only actually good characters are those that are made up for the series itself... namely Kevin and Lana... even though the both suffer from a common ailment of this series known as STUPID... even though Kevin is an avid gamer, he still acts like a complete jock..

the N team consists of Simon Belmont who hails from the original Castlevania series... in the game, Simon is a dark human who life has been tormented by the darkness... he seeks out this darkness that plauged him to defeat it and be rid of it... however in the show, Simon is a dumbass... he hasn't a care in the world... he is depicted as a self-loving womanizer who hits on Lana ever chance he gets... well i suppose if i lived with the amount of pain he has for so long, i'd want a little love too ...

another member of the N team is Megaman who we all know and love... out of all the characters in Captain N, i'd say Megaman's is the most realistic.. after going through a warpzone Megaman has become human.. this must have been real hard on the unstoppable robot wonder... he now experiences pain of hunger, envy, and regret... he hit the bottle hard.. and just couldn't stop.. look at his body.. its gone from its ideal image, to looking like some fat kid.. his body armor wasn't meant to take it either.. so its warped out of porportion into some weird disfiguring shapes... poor guy, i think we all know how this feels.. to be human... my heart goes out to you Megaman..

well lastly, the other original N team member is Kid Icarus.. who is always flying.. which again contradicts the video game where his wings only helped him jump higher and not sustain flight...

anyways.. the Unoffical Captain N website has picked apart this series alot better than i attempted to ... in the end.. the network used the same formula for making tv shows that they do today. " stupid characters appeal to stupid people " .. and those that identify with characters you know will hook you in and keep you...

this tv show is absolutely terrible... everything is written incorrectly, and those who made the series had never even touched a nintendo in their life... they thought the same formula that worked so well in other series like Inspector Gadget, and Scoobie Doo.. would work in a fantasy setting that began with dignity... well thanks to the popularity of Nintendo this show succeeded for almost 3 years... and because popularity is what makes anything sell, this'll happen over and over again ... at least with shows like Pokemon its gotten a little better.. but its still terrible...
